Several Volvo models equipped with 5 and 6 cylinder engines are prone to extensive oil consumption. Regular oil level check-ups are suggested and use of synthetic oil is required in order to avoid permanent damages. The picture in the background shows the exhaust tailpipe of an S60 suffering from oil consumption. In this particular case, the piston rings were replaced. This was a very costly repair.
